The comments on MotoIQ bring up a valid point. We can't just blame the knock off parts diluting the market. The truth is that the enthusiast is nearly a dying breed. Case in point- I'll admit it, I'm only 18 and am not even a high school graduate (yet). But, this grants me a native perspective on the future car buying population. When the majority of males in my class equate Mustang V6 with performance and serious modifications with K&N and Magnaflow, it's hard to imagine them driving anything other than bone stock cars for the rest of their lives. The appeal of becoming one with the machine, understanding its most primal mechanisms and succesfully improving them, has been lost on this generation. As technology develops further and performing actions (driving, cooking dinner, etc.) becomes easier, I believe the population will care less and less about how the technology functions.
